Happy New Year! I must admit when I woke up January 1st, I was a little surprised my inbox was not full of your outraged demands for the December PTA Happenings post. Surely you all woke up bright eyed and bushy tailed and scurried to your nearest screen to check cotswoldpta.org to see what the PTA Haps were in Dec! Thank you ALL for refraining from mentioning the lack of the post even ONE SINGLE time. I know how saddened you must have been, but I appreciate you bearing that disappointment in silence.
2018 is off to a great start, and 2017 had a fantastic close. Tina Purdy, VP of Enrichment, excels in leading the Enrichment team, ensuring our students are getting the extra support they deserve. Susie Wilcox heads up our girls mentoring group and has done a fabulous job thinking outside the box to give these young ladies experiences beyond the Cotswold campus. The girls headed uptown to Imaginon in December to visit Santa’s Bag where they were given $10 (donated by Children’s Theater) to shop for gifts for family members in a pop-up store. After shopping, they headed to Kings Kitchen and participated in an etiquette class taught by Ginger Carson of Flour Power Kids Cooking Studios and enjoyed a yummy meal. It was a great experience for all involved! Merritt Hazzard and the Backpacks with Snacks volunteers delivered over 80 backpacks and ensured each child had one to take home for the holiday break.
The Administrative Support committees lead by Mandy Price have assisted the staff in keeping our school running smoothly all year. Our Staff Appreciation guru- Katie Santospago- coordinated yummy and healthy snacks for our teachers on the early release day while they participated in professional development sponsored by the PTA with Dr Chance Lewis. New this year the support staff received gift cards from the PTA at the Winter Break in lieu of being adopted by each class. The PTA received numerous thank you notes from the staff- everyone really appreciated it! Our hope is that this made the Room Parent gift duty a little easier, too.
Allison Dawson is the VP of Fundraising and her committees have had great success in garnering donations. Commit to Cotswold is nearing their goal- please donate if you can! Our Community Partners and Spirit Night team has been seriously pounding the pavement- thank you Elizabeth Morrison, Lauren McClave, Nikki Milgate, and Asheley Hayes! The Barnes & Noble and Sabor spirit night was a big hit- thanks to all of you who participated. Common Market is a new Community Partner and their spirit night was also well attended. Order from Dominos February 6th and see you all at Leroy Fox February 21st!
We are gearing up for an exciting 2018 Fall and look forward to pairing with the Billingsville PTA. Jody Para (PTA EVP) and I have been meeting regularly with the NC and Mecklenburg PTA and awesome Mrs. Dee- the Billingsville PTA President- to ensure a smooth transition. Elizabeth Biber is spearheading our Nominations committee and is slating a strong roster of willing leaders to create the culture of excellence all kids deserve on both campuses. Cotswold is built on a history of parents rolling up their sleeves and partnering with exceptional staff to create the school we know and love. If you talk to some old timers from the early 2000s to the reopening of the school in 2007; you will hear stories of how family by family was brought to the school and started investing their time to create a culture that honors and builds up each student. As we expand and grow next year to bring the IMIB curriculum to even more deserving children- we need everyone to pitch in to ensure its success. Great schools don’t just happen- they are the product of outstanding leadership, dedicated teachers, willing volunteers and a little elbow grease. Please contact Elizabeth Biber to see what positions still need leaders and volunteer your time and talent.
February brings a bevy of PTA activities including Walk To School Day the 2nd, Staff Appreciation Week the 5th-9th (please sign up to cover a classroom at the Staff Extended lunch- it’s easy!), Candyland Dance the 9th, Friendship Parties the 14th, Open House at Billingsville February 15th at 4p, And Leroy Fox Spirit night the 21st.
Also- save the date for March 6th– Celebration Of Culture Night with a Meet & Eat and the first paired Cotswold Billingsville PTA General Meeting where we will announce and vote on the PTA Board Slate for 2018-2019.
