The first month of the school year is typically hectic and a tad busy, and this September proved no different. We hit the ground running with a PTA Board of Directors meeting Sept. 1 and have yet to stop.
I am bowled over and humbled by the dedication and hard work of our BOD this year. With these leaders managing our 60+ PTA committees, we are positioned for a great year.
Commit to Cotswold, our annual fundraising campaign, kicked off with Cougar Paws lining our halls to show our community’s dedication to Cotswold. Mickie Huneycutt and Laura Fahrney have been hard at work and their efforts are greatly appreciated. We have raised over $24,000 so far before company match funds — a great start! There is still time to donate- we are hoping for 100 percent participation from every family!
Our PTA funds sent Ms. Hunter, Ms. Murrell, Ms. Bullard, Ms. Pittman, Ms. Kennedy, and Ms. Pilar to an in-depth IB training in Bethesda, MD, this month. The team is meeting with IB Coordinator Ms. Grimm to debrief the first week of October and plan ways to implement all they learned with staff at both Cotswold and Billingsville. Our Transition Team has been hard at work preparing for next year. Many of the team visited Billingsville to get a tour of the school and everyone loved the beautiful center courtyard. They also had their first formal meeting and have begun work with representatives from both Billingsville and Cotswold to formulate a plan to create a unified community across both campuses. Sasha Prince and Michelle Abels are doing a fabulous job leading the team.
We had a great turn out at the New Parent Dinner on Sept. 14. Thank you to Martha Kinney, Karen Wisniewski and Sherese Smith (and their helpful families) for the delicious supper! Our first General PTA meeting on Curriculum Night was well attended by approximately 300 parents. Our PTA budget was presented by our treasured PTA Treasurer, Linda Kroha, and approved by unanimous vote by the parents assembled. Our teachers and staff were fed dinner that night by Staff Appreciation lead by Katie Santospago and Morgan Rosser — thank you to all the parents who donated homemade desserts as well!
Thank you to all the families who went to Spirit Night at Leroy Fox on Sept. 20. Our Community Partners and Spirit Night team (Lauren McClave, Elizabeth Morrison, Asheley Hayes and Nikki Milgate are rock stars — thank you!) reported that we raised over $500. Check Cougar Bites for more spirit nights to come! (Don’t receive Cougar Bites on Monday mornings in your inbox? Sign up for myschoolanywhere.com to stay in the know!)
Reading Rocks celebrated all our Summer Readers with Pops on the Park on Sept. 27. Several students won prizes from a lottery drawing out of all participants. Thank you to Elizabeth Carson and Rachel Leibold for a great campaign!
Thank you to all the parents who signed up to be Room Parents and IMIB teachers! We are so grateful for your time and willingness to serve.
October is gearing up to be just as busy and exciting as September with National Walk to School day with NASCAR star Denny Hamlin on Oct. 4, Book Fair the week of Sept. 16, field trips, campus tours, Open House, and an early release day just for good measure. We need help to make it all a success, so check CotswoldPTA.org to see how you can help!
