This week at school there was an open house for prospective parents. After meeting in the media center, parents broke off into tour groups to see the school. One of the groups stopped in to see the technology lab. Ms. Bowers was in there with a group of students leading a lesson based on the book titled “Have You Filled a Bucket Today?” When she was finished reading the book she asked the group has someone filled your bucket by being kind to you or has shown you that they care. Without hesitation, the children raised their hands. One child said that he hurt his leg on a desk and immediately two fellow students came up to him an asked him how he was feeling. Another child indicated that after her morning breakfast her mother told her that she loved her. And, a third child mentioned that he was having difficulties with someone at the school. He thought of starting a fight. But, his classmates talked him out of it. That quick moment of observation was powerful. It showed just how much caring happens at our school.
