Cotswold’s Fire and Life Safety Bowl took 3rd place in the 35th annual competition on Thursday, March 21st. Members consisted of 4th graders Alice Benston and Abby Royle and 5th graders Lewis Benston , Jacob Perry, and Ben Wilson. Lewis Benston served as team captain and was recognized for answering the most questions on the team. Jacob Perry was unable to attend the competition. In preparation, teams were responsible for reading a 95 page manual filled with information about various safety practices, facts, and statistics. In addition, they met with Coach Carol Harding on a weekly basis to practice answering questions and review the information. At the competition, they beat Long Creek in the 1st round, Victory Christian Team 2 in the second and Covenant Day in the 3rd before losing by one point in the 4th round to Victory Christian Team 1. Victory Christian Team 1 went on to win 1st place in the competition. The Cotswold team then went up and won against Hidden Valley for 3rd place. Their 3rd place status resulted in qualification for the state competition which will take place in Mooresville on April 25th. The team was recognized with individual trophies and a $400 check to the school! They are eligible to win even more prizes at the state completion!
