“As you know, your school is slated to begin the 2011-2012 school year with a reduced staff, due to the current budget crisis. There will no longer be Teacher Assistants in 1st grade or 2nd grade classrooms, each school will have one fewer support staff member, and all schools will get fewer staff based on their ED population. Class size averages will also increase by 2 students in grades 4 – 12.
If you are concerned that these cuts will affect the quality of your child’s education and you believe that a strong, adequately-funded school system is necessary for the economic vitality of our region then we want to hear from you. Your actions may make it possible to reverse some of these decisions.
MeckFUTURE is an organization of Mecklenburg families and citizens who are working to persuade County Commissioners to use the recent property revaluations as an opportunity to generate additional funding for CMS. They need to hear from every school, every CMS family, every concerned citizen about what the school system means to you and what the cuts would do.
This coming Monday, April 4th, at 6:30 pm MeckFUTURE will hold a leadership rally at First Ward Elementary School (715 North Caldwell Street, Charlotte).
Please send two representatives from your school to attend this key meeting. Your leaders will leave with information, tools and materials to bring back to your school and share with your community.
So far nearly 30 schools are participating, from all areas of the county – north, south, east, west, and central. By joining voices and speaking up, we have the ability to change the future of our children.”
